Egg Freezing is No Longer Considered Experimental

Last fall, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) removed the experimental label from oocyte freezing, a move that many reproductive professionals have been waiting for since vitrification, or flash freezing, has improved success rates. We do know over 1,500 babies have been born worldwide from frozen eggs with no significant reports of birth defects, growth or developmental delays or facial abnormalities. What we don’t know is how many cancer patients have successfully used their frozen eggs post cancer treatment. Although ASRM removed the experimental label, the organization discourages reproductive professionals from marketing this technique to women who are delaying childbearing for any reason other than a medical one.

The California Cryobank offers long-term oocyte storage for cancer patients. For more information, contact or call 866-477-3762.
